Firehole Springs is one of the many springs and geysers found along Firehole Drive, south of the Madison Junction. It often erupts in continuous bursts and is called a perpetual spouter. The busts are usually quite small but can reach 6 feet. Often, there are seconds long pauses between the bursts, reminiscent of true geyser activity. Firehole Spring was not named for the Firehole River but rather because of the "flickering flame" effect of the rising gas bubbles that can be seen in the pool.
